We assist executives in optimizing their deferred compensation and retirement income.

Deferred Income

Restricted stock plans often provide opportunities for converting income on appreciation of the stock to the lower preferential capital gains tax rate from income that would be taxed at the higher ordinary income tax rate. We review plan provisions to assure the best use of the stock awards.

Qualified and non-qualified stock option grants provide opportunities for minimizing tax and maximizing profit by careful analysis of when and how the grants should be exercised. We review and analyze option exercise strategies to minimize investment cost and maximize income.

Qualified retirement plans require careful analysis of plan provisions to assure their maximum benefit in each specific situation. We assist owners and employees decide whether to use traditional retirement plans which allow contributions to be deducted and save tax immediately, or to use ROTH plans which do not provide an immediate tax benefit, but provide tax free distributions and do not require minimum distributions at age 70 ½.

We advise our clients in connection with all types of retirement plans, including 401(k) plans, SEPs, traditional IRAs and ROTH IRAs. We also help our clients decide when to start receiving social security retirement income.

Employment Agreements

We advise companies and executives with respect to employee benefits issues incident to employment agreements, non-qualified plans and equity arrangements.

C. Murray Saylor, Jr., an attorney/CPA, who previously was a partner in two multi-national CPA firms, is a tax expert with long time experience in dealing with executive compensation, stock options, retirement plans, IRAs and ROTH IRAs. Jackie Saylor has written an article in The Mortmain about ROTH IRAs.
